In this workshop, I discuss how and where to submit your individual micro prose pieces, as well as contests and publishers for chapbooks (15-35 pieces) and full-length collections (35-75+ pieces). I also talk about how to incorporate your micro work into larger bodies of work, as well as how to decide if/when your work is ready to go out into the world. We’ll consider different submission strategies and schedules so you can find one that works for you. Includes a submission tracker, sample templates, resources, and more.

What I Write

I'm the author of five novels published with Penguin Random House (three under the name Mia King) that have been published in 13 countries. I'm a Poetry Society of America Chapbook Fellow for my prose poetry work, Other Small Histories, and an IPPY essays award winner for my collection of micro memoirs, Allegiance. My craft book, Writing the Hawaiʻi Memoir: Advice and Exercises to Help You Tell Your Story, won the Hawaiʻi Book Publishers’ Ka Palapala Poʻokela Award of Excellence. In 2022, I served as Executive Editor for the acclaimed anthology, Nonwhite and Woman: 131 Micro Essays on Being in the World.
