Ready to get your micro prose into the world?

If you’ve written micro prose (300 words or less), revised your micro prose, and feel ready to submit, or if you're just curious about what the possibilities are, this course is for you!

In this workshop, I discuss how and where to submit your individual micro prose pieces, as well as contests and publishers for chapbooks (15-35 pieces) and full-length collections (35-75+ pieces). I also talk about how to incorporate your micro work into larger bodies of work, as well as how to decide if/when your work is ready to go out into the world. We’ll consider different submission strategies and schedules so you can find one that works for you. Includes a submission tracker, sample templates, resources, and more.

Meet Your Instructor

Hi, I'm Darien Gee.  I'm a multi-genre, award-winning author. In a past life, I was an international tax manager with a Big Four accounting firm. I now live and work from the island of Hawaiʻi. I'm a mom of three and have a part-time dog.

What I Write
I'm the author of five novels published with Penguin Random House (three under the name Mia King) that have been published in 13 countries. I'm a Poetry Society of America Chapbook Fellow for my prose poetry work, Other Small Histories, and an IPPY essays award winner for my collection of micro memoirs, Allegiance. My craft book, Writing the Hawaiʻi Memoir: Advice and Exercises to Help You Tell Your Story, won the Hawaiʻi Book Publishers’ Ka Palapala Poʻokela Award of Excellence. In 2022, I served as Executive Editor for the acclaimed anthology, Nonwhite and Woman: 131 Micro Essays on Being in the World.

Where I Teach
In addition to online classes at my website, Writer-ish.com, I teach creative writing at Hugo House and UCLA Extension. I have been leading workshops and working with writers for over 25 years. I love the micro narrative format and have seen writers do amazing things with their work. I'm looking forward to see what you can do with it, too!
